Any bench will do

« on: February 03, 2009, 07:50:48 AM »

Welcome to FirstCat - welcome, welcome one and all. Since so many of you photograph your pets, here's a FirstView/FirstBench-style monthly picture challenge for you to aim at. Now, I know it says FirstCat, but that's just because cats seem to be the most common one that people photograph and post on internet photography forums. Plus it rolls off the tongue better than FirstPet, so just get used to it.  Grin  It applies to any pets, and if you happen to extend the definition of 'pets' to the wild birds on your garden feeders, or the livestock in the fields up the road, well, I don't suppose anyone is going to make too much of a fuss about it.

So, no need to get all catty becasue your pet isn't a cat. No need to get the bird. You're not in the dog-house, and there's nothing fishy going on. [Stop me, someone - pleaseGrin] Just take whatever pet or animal pics you want to and muck in. We're all quite relaxed here about that sort of stuff.

Quite how it will run hasn't been decided yet - and that's where we need to start. Have your say - what kind of a challenge do you want it to be? There won't be any actual prizes, beyond maybe a title, monthly forum display medal (like the ARSEs already awarded for FirstBench), but you don't need prizes, really, do you? Nevertheless, we have to decide other things, like what actually will be the challenge each month? Is it just a question of submitting any pet pic you want to, or do you want a monthly theme to it? What will the voting look like - a simple 'vote for your favourite'- poll, or different categories? Loads of stuff like that to decide, so get on and start kicking ideas around. It's pretty much all up to you.  Walk the Dog

Don't like cats very much. I used to work in a Vets during the school holidays and I savaged by a cat. We weren't even going to touch its knackers  Shocked

I've always been a dog person, so please me Chubby, my rescued Beagle with epilepsy.

Marvellous. The cat's actions are so acutely observed. Yay!

Meet Maisie. Originally from the Cats' Protection League and adopted by my parents once her broken and pinned leg had healed. Kept Dad sane after Mum's death but when he became too ill with his lung cancer and felt he could no longer give her the attention she deserved and craved, we took her on rather than let her go back to the CPL for rehoming. She's very loving, likes cuddles, purrs too loudly to have her in with us when we're trying to sleep and enjoys biting people. Main hobbies (apart from biting) include sun worship, as evidenced below. Favourite food seems to be milky porridge, ideally stolen from my wife's bowl or the saucepan (and blood, of course).
