The Benches of Latin America:
A Treatise with reference to Feminism, Politics, the
Spanish Conquistadors and the Indigenous Population.
I will be looking at the effects that the Spanish
Conquest had on the indigenous Indians and how bench
design was affected by the upheaval of the arrival
of the Spaniards. I will closely research the history
of Latin American bench design and follow this through
to modern day Latin American living, discussing en
route the effect that various sociopolitical and
feminist movements have had on the abuse and use
of multi person seating arrangements.
Island Seating; the Galapagos
and its Benches:
During my visit I will be traveling from island
to island looking at the impact that bench placement
has had on the wildlife of the islands, specifically
the nesting habits of Galapagos penguins, the mating
habits of the fur seals and roosting habits of
Darwin's Finches with reference to the unexpected
part that the benches have had to play in the evolution
of the several species of Finches seen in the islands.
I will of course be heavily referencing the work
of Charles Darwin and the greatest of all bench
experts Julian Featherstonehough-Cholmondley who
sailed alongside the great Mr Darwin in The Beagle.
In the course of my travels I will be interviewing
various strata of society, from the toffs to the
'gentlepeople of the road' to garner information
on current local views of bench life.
I am fully expecting that these books will be published
by the UBP (University of bench Press) later in the
year with publication dates in time for the Christmas
bun fight.

Well, I'll certainly be looking forward to those publications.
I'm sure there will be great innerest among our international
membership.
Incidentally, my mother's uncle went to school with
a great grand-nephew of Julian Featherstonehough-Cholmondley,
one Ralph Featherstonehough Cholmondley Farquarharson-Smythe.
Apparently a dreary chap, but he did introduce my uncle
Rudy to Benchism (and he me).
I have never read any of the Featherstonehough-Cholmondley
papers, I tend to prefer an emotional response to benches,
rather than academic (hence the photographic approach).
Although I did once request a folio of the FC papers
from the British Library, as I had a readers pass,
but they told me that the archive was held between
the Ashmolean and Bodleian. I never bothered to pursue
it further.

| They can be somewhat dry
but once waded through give a rather fascinating aspect
on the whole Benchists approach to life. Unfortunately
it is quite difficult to sum this up in a concise manner.
My favoured response, like yourself, is on a more emotional
level. I do expect my books to be lavishly illustrated
throughout with examples of benches in the various territories
I will be visiting as a balm to the rather 'academic'
nature of the text.
It's also nice to come in to contact with someone
who, even distantly, has connections with the great
JFC.
